Go to homepage Curriculum Professional Development Our Impact The Civics, Service, and Leadership (iCSL) program aims to prepare students exploring careers in military and public service with high-quality civic learning experiences that build critical thinking, media literacy, civility, civic knowledge and participation, and service. Our constitutional democracy needs engaged participants with a strong foundation in civics and how the government works. iCSL applies a service and leadership lens to civics education. iCSL Key Program Areas: Curriculum Professional Development Volunteer ActivitiesCommunity Engagement Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Curriculum Curriculum The iCSL curriculum builds an essential foundation for students using high-quality curricular resources from iCivics. It teaches civics through the lens of service and leadership, and cultivates critical thinking, problem solving, and media literacy skills needed for a successful career in military or public service. The curriculum offers a curated selection of iCivics resources, teacher guides for civic engagement within the classroom and the community, and supplementary videos and instructional materials. We are currently piloting these resources and will republish them after the pilot evaluation is complete. If you are interested in learning more about the iCSL curriculum, click here . Professional Development Professional Development We provide educators with professional development opportunities and a community of practice at the intersection of civics, service, and leadership. Pilot participants have the opportunity to join in-person and online professional development opportunities designed to help facilitate the pilot experience. If you are not a pilot participant, you can register for our free monthly webinar series that explores the intersections of civics, service, and leadership with experts and colleagues in the field. You can also utilize the entire suite of iCivics professional development videos, including a new series that explores each iCivics product and how to best utilize it in the classroom. Past and future webinarsVolunteer ActivitiesCommunity Engagement Volunteer ActivitiesCommunity Engagement We create volunteer opportunities for military and school communities to come together through community service and civic engagement. In addition to working directly with teachers, iCSL is partnering with Blue Star Families to foster civic engagement and understanding between military and school communities. We are creating a volunteerism guide with these two communities in mind. If you are interested in joining our iCSL volunteer initiative, please connect with our team . Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps The U.S. Army’s JROTC program currently operates in more than 1,700 public and private high schools, military institutions, and correctional centers throughout the United States and overseas. Students join JROTC for a sense of community and belonging, to learn new skills, and to explore possible careers in military or public service. iCSL curriculum resources align with the JROTC experience, particularly in skill building around leadership and character development. Our professional development is applicable to JROTC instructors interested in incorporating our resources into their classrooms. If you are a JROTC instructor interested in any of the iCSL resources or opportunities, please connect with our team Are you interested in joining the iCSL pilot program?
